Alfred Smith, age 91, of Port Richey, passed away November 14, 2016 under the care of Gulfside Hospice. He was born September 14, 1925 to Thomas and Mabel Smith in Red Bay, LA. He served proudly in the US Army during WWII. Al came to Florida in 1954 with his family. He owned Kirby Vacuum Center on US Hwy 19 in New Port Richey for 35 years. He truly enjoyed working long hours, reading the paper, and relaxing with the TV in the evenings, but he especially enjoyed fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Al also made time for his family whenever possible. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. His sons used to race cars, and he would attend to watch them when he could. He attended Hudson Church of God when he was able.
Al is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gill Smith; and his sister, Marie Byers. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Ruth; his sons, Thomas (Jane) and Robert; his daughters, Sheila and Debi Rostel (Pete); nine grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Al will be held at Michels & Lundquist Funeral Home on Friday November 18, from 9am-10am. Service will be at 10am. There will be a reception to follow in the reception lounge at the funeral home. A procession to Florida National Cemetery will commence after the reception with committal service at 2:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Open Door School, where Al’s daughter Sheila was a student.
