Ann Leden Ascher Stevens, age 73, of Tarpon Springs, FL died at Sun Coast Hospice on December 8 after a debilitating battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Ann was born in Rockford, IL on July 8, 1943 to Howard and Evelyn (Clark) Leden of Winnebago, IL. She graduated from Winnebago High School in 1961 and received a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Illinois State University in 1965. She married James Ascher of Winnebago, IL on June 26, 1965. He was killed in action in Viet Nam on January 8, 1969. She married Jim Stevens on December 16, 1972.Ann worked as a teacher in Aurora, Rockford, and Dixon, IL schools. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, reading and gardening. She and her husband owned and operated Mail Etc. in Dixon, IL. After relocating to Orlando, FL she worked at Universal Studios. She and her husband retired and moved to Tarpon Springs, FL, and pastimes included Tai Chi, reading, traveling, entertaining family and visiting friends. Ann is survived by husband, Jim Stevens, children Kathy (Craig) Etchison of Dixon, IL, Linda (Dan) Slain of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Mary Beth (Tim) Wehnes of Wesley Chapel, FL and Tabbe Ascher Stevens of Jefferson City, MO. Grandchildren Claire and Annie Etchison, Danielle, David, and Adam Slain, Jack Wehnes and Kyla Benson. Brother Richard Leden of Albuquerque, NM and sister-in-law Dixie Leden of Winnebago, IL. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by both parents, her first husband, brothers Clark “Skip” Leden and Robert Leden. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Holiday, FL. A memorial service and interment of cremains is planned in Illinois at a later date. A memorial has been established to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and Sun Coast Hospice.
