Ledig, Charles W, 102, resident of Tampa, passed away on October 13, 2018. He was a previous resident of Tarpon Springs, FL, Falmouth, MA and Norwood, MA. Charles was born on November 18, 1915 in Irvington, New Jersey. Charles was the National Sales Manager at National Pneumatic Co. NJ/MA from 1946-1954, where he was a pioneer in product design, holding over 200 patents. He then joined Lindco Inc. in Worcester, MA in 1954, where he served as Vice President until his retirement in 1986. Charles was a member of Woods Hole Golf Club for 22 years, where he was an active member of the “Senior-Senior” group and served on the Board as President. His claim to fame was making a hole in one on the 8th hole in 1990. He shot his age of 79 in 1994. Charles was an avid fisherman and his boat, the “Sandy” was a familiar sight in the Falmouth Harbor, MA for many years. He was a former member of the Falmouth Yacht Club on Cape Cod. He enjoyed taking a group of Woods Hole golfers on his boat yearly to play Farm Neck Golf Course on Martha’s Vineyard. A special project he undertook for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute was aiding in their research concerning sharks and the “Dental Floss” effects the sharks had on WHOI’s telemetry equipment. He researched crustaceans, particularly lobsters, and wrote a whole treatise on the subject. In prior years he was a member of the Falmouth Sports Center in Falmouth, MA and a member of the Norwood Tennis Club in Norwood, MA. He started spending winters in Tarpon Springs, FL in 1987, where he joined Cypress Run Golf Club and served on the Board of Directors from 1996 to 1999. He became a year-round resident of Tarpon Springs in 2004. Charles celebrated his 93rd birthday by inviting 100 guests to an “Irish Wake” at the Cypress Run Golf Club. He said that he wanted to be around to enjoy the party. It was a memorable evening. Charles is survived by his daughter, Sandra McGuiness of Norwood, MA; granddaughters, Jeanette (George) Glidden and Erica (Eric) Larson; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Glidden, Danielle Glidden and Cody Larson. Joanne and Mike Ladewig says:
Our love and condolences to Cousin Sandy and her lovely family. We were blessed to have visited several days with Charles and Peggy at their Tarpon Springs home when Charles was 95. He drove us (yes! at age 95 still driving!) and Peggy out to several local scenic places and then for lunch. We had several days together and he and Peggy shared many special memories with us, including some from the time when my dad, (his younger brother Floyd), was .introduced to his first "pizza pie!" I also recall fishing trips out in his boat "Sandy" and the fun we had, though we mostly caught small sharks and even puffer fish - this was when I was a young child about 1960. We were so pleased to be able to attend his 100th birthday party where we met several relatives we had not seen for years and many relatives we had never met before. We appreciate Sandy for making those precious memories possible.
