Dale H. Black, age 93, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Life Care Center of Columbia.

Dale was born on April 5, 1922 to Ottis Black and Pauline Nixon Black in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Dale had a great love of country and joined the United States Navy during World War II, shortly after Pearl Harbor. He was married to Sharon Reinhard Black for 55 wonderful years. Dale was a retiree of International Harvester, after having worked there as a machinist for forty-one years. His family recalls that he was the most optimistic man, and was always looking forward to something. It seemed that absolutely nothing could get him down. He had a superior love for his family and always put them first. They watched him live a life full of faith in the Lord. He expressed this faith in more than words, but in deeds. He was a member of the Holiday Free Methodist Church in New Port Richey, Florida.

Mr. Black is survived by his children: Alan (Donna) Black of Columbia and Carol (Mark) Turnau; grandchildren: Erin Black Shankel, Emily Black Nelson, Ryan Turnau and Brandon Turnau; his great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Geraldine Black Chandler, Norman Black and Dave Black. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ottis Black and Pauline Nixon Black; his wife of 55 years: Sharon Reinhard Black; sister: Mary Scheuermann and Evelyn Howe; and his first wife: Ruth Lehman Black.

Funeral services for Dale will be held in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. James Reinhard officiating. The family will visit with friends on from 10:30 a.m. until time for the service, also at the funeral home. In honor of his military service he will be interred at a later date in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.  Michels and Lundquist Funeral Home is handling the services in Florida.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Greeneville College of Illinois at 315 E. College Avenue, Greenville, Illinois, 62246-1145.
