Daniel “Dan” Michael DeBias, 79, of Brooksville passed from this life into his heavenly home on Saturday June 12, 2021 after a valiant battle with a terminal illness. His firm belief in Jesus Christ, and love and care from his family, supported him throughout his aliment. He passed peacefully at home with family by his side.
Daniel was born in Chicago, IL on December 26, 1941 to Daniel and Lena DeBias. The second of three children. He graduated Evergreen Park High School class of 1960, earning numerous letters throughout his high school years in wrestling, football, and track and field.
Daniel was married to Theodora “Teddi” Kavis on December 31, 1971. At the time of their marriage they created a beautiful blended family of five boys, and three years later would add a daughter. Dan and Teddi would have been married 50 years this coming December.
Over the course of Dan’s life he had many interests. Some of them included serving as a volunteer firefighter, a member of a local bowling league, and rooting for his favorite Chicago sports teams, The Cubs and The Bears. Then in 1972 he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and turned his interest to serving The Lord. In 1974, with a servant’s heart, Dan and Teddi opened their home to help plant the first of two churches, Bible Baptist Church. They would repeat this same act in 2007 to help found Anchor Baptist Church. He served in many positions in the churches as a bus worker, Deacon, Sunday school teacher, song leader, youth leader, VBS teacher, and trustee, to name a few. He even coached the men’s church softball team. He was an avid soul-winner; always ready to share the Gospel with those around him. Aside from his love of God, his family was at the center of his life, receiving his unconditional love, devotion, and time.
Daniel is preceded in death by his son Dennis Daniel, and his parents Daniel and Lena DeBias. He is survived by his beloved wife, Theodora; his loving children Douglas, David, Darren, Dennis Lee, and Danielle; daughters-in-law, Anita, Leah, and Margret; and son-in-law Daniel; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; two sisters, Marlene Jeffers and Dolores D’Adamo (husband Pat), brother-in-law Leon Kavis; sister-in-law Constance Abate (husband Dan).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the CurePSP Foundation. https://www.psp.org
