Evelyn Mary Kelly Dunn, 99 years old, of Fort Myers, Florida, peacefully passed away on August 20, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn was born on May 13, 1923 to Edward and Bridget Kelly in Montreal, Canada. She moved to the USA in 1945 and married John (Jack) E. Dunn in Washington, D.C., June 18, 1947. Together they raised six children in Landover Hills, Maryland, and were active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Evelyn shared her loving compassion with everyone she touched, living for periods of time near her children in Odessa, FL, Columbia, MD, Raleigh, NC, and Fort Myers, FL. She was a bright star in the lives of all who knew her, touching many with her open heart and joyful spirit. She shared her love with everyone, right up to her last hours.

Evelyn is pre-deceased by her husband, her brother, Harry of Montreal, and two sons, James and Steven. She devoted her life to her children and was a beloved mother to Carol Dunn of Fort Myers, FL; John Dunn of Washington, UT; Patricia Dunn-Fierstein of Odessa, FL; Michael Dunn of Olney, MD; and Debra Sweeney of Glenwood, MD. Her 12 grandchildren knew how much she loved them—Leah, Trieste, Lauren, Kyle, Ben, Garrett, Patrick, Jenna, Tim, Taylor, Morgan, and Jessie. And her six great-grandchildren were blessed to know her kindness and her songs—Teaghan, Kestrel, Avery, Pearson, August, and Bryce. She was also treasured by her daughters-in-law and sons-in-law whom Evelyn never thought of as “in-laws”—Linda R., Carl, Linda D., and Greg. Evelyn was adored by too many to be named, but you know who you are. When Evelyn was a child, she was helped by Salvation Army and she regularly donated to them. A Celebration of Life will be held for Evelyn on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Donaldson Funeral Home, 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a service beginning at 1:30 pm.

My sincere condolences for the loss of your dear mother. She was always one of my favorite people and was always so kind to me. Aunt Evelyn gave me a Unicorn Bell, the handle is a brass Unicorn. The day that she past away, the rang. I will always remember her and how much she loved our mother. I’m sorry I can’t be at her celebration of life. I’m having some health issues that keep me from going to functions with groups of people. My prayers are with you all. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I wish I could have known my sweet Grandma better, but what I do know is that she has inspired compassion, love, kindness, gentleness, laughter, and grace within myself. I am so grateful for the times I was able to travel out east to visit her. I think this photo was a family birthday chat in 2020. Everyone is all smiles.

Aunt Evelyn. Wow. Far too many memories-all wonderful- to recount. She and Jack were way more than aunt and uncle. A couple of rocks, always there, constant. The times we had as kids on vacations, in back yards, in the woods, Nags Head also comes to mind. The next dark night, way out somewhere beyond the city and suburban lights, look up fondly at the great dark sky. That brightest star you see is Evelyn, looking down and telling us to be as happy as she is.

I don’t remember exactly when she last visited Maryland, it must’ve been a few years ago but it still feels pretty recent. When Gim-Gim did come up to visit us, she put olive oil on our plants to make them ‘happy and shiny,’ and we watched The Bells of Saint Mary and Green Book with her. I want to watch those movies again soon, so I can remember what it felt like to watch them with her for the first time.

Mom, My mom was an extraordinary and gifted woman. Her gift to me was the way she was always so positive, loving and accepting. Mom lived with us. Our friends and extended family only had to meet her once to feel her graciousness. She gave to everyone by maintaining the forgotten art of letter writing and mailing actual cards for birthdays, Christmas, and “just because .” She had some real passions and the house was rocking when Penn State football, The Voice or politics was on tv. She loved going out to eat, seeing live shows , shopping, and exercising daily. She had two dumb bell weights under her bed and each morning she would go through her weight and stretching program, which also included meditation and prayer. Faith was so important to her. Each morning we said good morning and each evening we said I love you. She often called me her rock, but she was my earth angel as described in this quote. “ There are a select few who touch your life in the most meaningful way. After meeting them their souls will leave an imprint in your heart and from then on you will never ever be the same again. These are the people you call your earth angels.” I love you, Mom, and will be forever thankful for the time we had together. Love, Carol.

Missing you every day Grandma. When I was little she sang to me. "Frere Jacques" and the "months of the year" song, and "if all of the raindrops," and so many others. She packed little baggies of cheez-its for me for the airplane. She always checked my teeth and asked if I was brushing my gums, and told me to smile with teeth (I'm working on that one, Grandma.)

Our beautiful mother is gone at 99 years. She was sick for a bit more than a week and in the hospital for about 4 days. Prior to that, she lead a full, vibrant life. She was a bright star full of intelligence and humor and curiosity. Her message to us all is love—compassion and forgiveness and kindness. Be with that in the days ahead and we will honor her legacy. We should all try to be more like her. We've lost a really good one, but we were so lucky to have her so long. We are all grieving and we are blessed. Thank you to all who have reached out to her children and grandchildren.

I will forever treasure my time with this lady. She was beautiful, inside and out. I never saw her that she wasn't impeccably dressed.. everything matching, jewelry in place.
