Gabrielle J. Bousquet

Gifts & Memorial Donations

Gabrielle Joan Bousquet. A force. A light. A Brit. Gabrielle “Gay” Bousquet (80) of Port Richey, Florida, passed unexpectedly in her home 27th August 2023. Born 8th January 1943 in Bampton-in-the-Bush, Oxfordshire, England to RAF Squadron Leader Harry and Mary E. Ledger. Married 3rd February 1962 to Louis A. Bousquet.

Gabrielle built home and community alike around the globe, moving across the pond with her late husband Louis in 1962. A woman of both strong-willed and stubborn nature, she was the first to give her opinion, but was always willing to listen and learn. A free spirit with an unending love for her family, she made time for every car show, every baseball game, and every trivia night. As a lover of art, music, and world travel, Gabrielle lived her life exactly the way she wanted, with a suitcase of feathers, sequins, and turquoise in tow.

Gabrielle is survived by her brother Gerard Ledger and his wife Elisabeth, nephew Thomas Ledger and family of Birmingham, England, sister Teresa Bishop and her husband David of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England, nephew Fabrice Alvares of Vienna, Austria, son Benjamin Bousquet and his wife Laurie of Dayville, Connecticut, and grandson Louis Bousquet of Indianapolis, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, per Gabrielle’s request: find some sunshine, uncork a bottle of wine, have a lovely chat with a friend, and celebrate the life she lived.

    Tom Ledger and family says:
We'll always remember Gabrielle for her humour, her positivity, her energy and spirit and of course her hair! She was very generous and our girls have some beautiful, handmade colourful blankets from her (a lovely reminder of her vibrancy). It was always a pleasure to meet her when she came over and good to see over skype how happy she was in Florida. She'll be sorely missed.

To me Gabrielle will always be remembered as Gay a woman who lived her life on her terms. We spent many years having Sunday dinners at my home when she was my support system and I hers. I only have to walk into many rooms in my home to remember Gay as her remarkable art work is on display. Rest in peace Gay, my prayers and deepest sympathy to all the family.

We didn’t get to take our trip to England. You were a great inspiration for me to see and learn about other countries. Your knowledge amazed me. You taught me to love sushi. I’m really going to miss your laughter and colorful hair! Love you!

    Gwyneth Tillen says:
Gabrielle and I met through a British group many years ago, she was such a fascinating person, so many hobbies and interests. We shared a love of the arts and enjoyed many plays together at UCONN. She was a gifted artist, I will always remember an exhibition of her art at Thompson Public Library, absolutely amazing. Gabrielle’s thirst for learning, her love of poetry, and zest for life was remarkable, She was an amazing lady and I am so glad that our paths crossed. How she will be missed, the most vibrant person I have ever encountered. We send our deepest sympathy to Gabrielle’s family. Ron and Gwyneth Tillen

    Ged and Lis says:
Gabrielle was a much loved sister and friend. She was always cheerful and active. Her life was creative and she loved going to concerts and theatre, or just having an evening out with friends joining together for a pub quiz. Despite the thousands of miles of separation we always kept in touch by Skype. She stayed with us several times when we were in Oxford, and liked to time it to coincide with art weeks when many local creative people exhibited their works. She had a great sense of humour and we had many laughs together, being amused by politics and life in general. We shall miss her greatly, her smiling face, her coloured hair, her friendship and her creativity. Dearest Gabrielle, rest in peace.

My dear friend. We both married US airmen and crossed the pond the same year. We met soon after, becoming close friends. Our lives were very different and our Air Force life meant moving a lot but we kept in touch and we were never far apart in thought. We had many adventures together and she will always remain my heart. Rest in peace my friend.

We Remember Them In the rising of the sun and its going down, we remember them. In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them. When we have joys we yearn to share, we remember them. So long as we live, they too shall live, for they are now a part of us, as we remember them. Excerpt from a Jewish Remembrance.

Gabrielle was a wonderful person. We loved talking with her and having many meals together. Our dominoes and card games were lively. One of many memories is our trip to the winery in Tarpon Springs and how we tried to contain ourselves from laughter but afterwards finding a favorite restaurant. We will miss you our friend.
