James N. Gaitis, 102, of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2022 at Suncoast Hospice. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Nicolas and Katerina Gaitis. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp in the China-Burma-India theater. James worked as a plant engineer for Ecko Products in Chicago, Illinois. He relocated to New Port Richey in 1983, coming from Prospect Heights, Illinois. James will be remembered as a very devoted and loving husband and father. In his spare time, James enjoyed gardening, reading, coaching sports, and sharing time with his family and dog, Skipper. He was strong in his faith and a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Palm Harbor, Florida. James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Gaitis, and is survived by son, James (Dawn) Gaitis; daughters, Patricia (Frank) Martello, and Diane (Steven) Forton; grandchildren, Nicole Kelso (David) and Scott Forton (Danielle); and great-grandchildren, Natalie, Danielle, Alexander, Bennett, Nicholas, and Luciana. A visitation is to be held on Monday, November 14, 2022 from 9am at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, located at 2757 Alderman Rd, Palm Harbor, FL 34684, with a funeral mass to follow at 10am. James will be interred at a future date at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
