Jim Stevens, 83, of Tarpon Springs, FL. died at Suncoast Hospice Care Center on October 15, 2022 after a short illness. Jim was born on September 6, 1939 to James V. and M. Virginia (Cronin) Stevens of New York, NY. He graduated in 1957 from Calvert Hall College High School in Baltimore, MD. Following graduation, Jim joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1961. He received an Associates in Arts degree from Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL. in June 1971. Jim married Ann Leden Ascher of Winnebago, IL. on December 16, 1972.

He spent his career working as a Credit Manager in the Manufacturing Industry. He was a long-time and active volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America in Illinois and Florida. He served
in leadership positions at the district and council level and attended many training programs offered to BSA volunteers. Jim was recognized for his volunteerism with the Silver Beaver, a
council-level distinguished service award, the Bronze Pelican and St. George emblem for spiritual development of Catholic youth in BSA. Jim was a member of the Order of the Arrow
and earned the Wood Badge, the highest level of adult Scout leader training. After retirement, he had the opportunity to work at Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. Jim was a
member and chancellor of the Father Farrell Council 6476 and purser of the Father Farrell Assembly 1774 Knights of Columbus. Until his recent illness, he volunteered weekly at
Suncoast Hospice Care Center.

Over his lifetime, Jim had many hobbies and interests including model trains, coin collecting, swimming, scuba diving, travel, reading and befriending just about everyone he met.  Jim is survived by his children, Kathy (Craig) Etchison of Dixon, IL. Linda (Dan) Slain of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Mary Beth (Tim) Wehnes of Wesley Chapel, FL. and Tabbe Ascher Stevens (Loretta Fildes) of Jefferson City, MO; grandchildren, Claire (Jason) Mealer and Annie (Matt Reynolds) Etchison, Danielle (Bruno Faria) Slain, David (Judy) Slain and Adam (Jessica Sanchez) Slain, and Jack Wehnes; great-grandchildren Hunter Slain, Marilyn Slain and Gabe Reynolds; sister, Ginny Fodor of Marietta, GA, sister-in-law, Dixie Leden of Winnebago, IL. and brother-in-law, Richard Leden of Albuquerque, NM., several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife; brother Bobby and sister Pat.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Holiday, FL. on Friday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service and interment of cremains is planned in Illinois at a later date. A memorial has been established to Suncoast Hospice Care Center.
