Lucy Segarra-Colon passed away in the early morning hours of March 18, 2019 at her residence
in Wesley Chapel, Florida at the age of 69. She is survived by her husband, Michael; her sisters,
Darlene and Maria; her brother Carlos; her daughters, Martha and Jeannie; her step children,
Arlene, Debbie and Michael; her beloved grandchildren, Andres, Joey, Lillian, Myles, Kayla,
Lisa and Nina; her great grandchild, Isabella; her sons-in-law Derek, Stefano and Keith; and her
daughter-in-law Sharon. Lucy, a native New Yorker was an avid lover of music, the arts and
theater. In the early years, Lucy spent time as a paraprofessional in the New York educational
system while focusing on her studies at Fordham University. She spent the majority of her career
in an administrative role with the news agency, Reuters. Lucy was the consummate hostess and
excellent cook. She loved people, and welcomed anyone who came to her door with open arms.
She had a heart of gold and frequently put the needs of others ahead of her own. She found the
silver lining even amongst the stormy clouds. When not singing and enjoying her oldies, you
could find her bragging about her shining achievements, her grandchildren. Retirement brought
her and Michael to Florida to start a new adventure. She was a true patriot, as reflected in her
political activism and local community involvement in the Wesley Chapel area. Her absence will
be felt enormously by all of those who had the honor of knowing her. While her passing came as
such a shock to those who loved her, we know she is watching over all of us with love.
Arrangements have been made at the Michels & Lundquist Funeral Home on Saturday, March 23. Viewing will be from 11am to 1pm, services immediately following at 1pm. Address: 5228 Trouble Creek Rd, New Port Richey, FL, 34652. In lieu of
flowers, the family asks that a donation be made on her behalf to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
