Maribel F. Penichet

Maribel Fernandez Penichet (Marie Penichet, Maribel Garcia Nava), 75, of New Port Richey, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 2, 2022 in New Port Richey, Fl.  She was born in Havana (Habana), Cuba and attended Merici Academy, Sacred Heart, Academy of the Holy Name and St. Petersburg Junior College.  Maribel was a certified gemologist and held an OUPV/Six-Pack Captain’s license for many years after retirement.  Maribel was an entrepreneur.  Some of her ventures included television repair -where many knew her as TV Lady, jewelry sales and captain’s services.

After Maribel’s immigration from Cuba with her parents at 16, her family settled in St. Petersburg.  She married Pedro (Pete) in 1964.  They spent their first few years of marriage in New Jersey before returning to Florida.  Maribel’s home has been Pasco County for decades including Shady Hills, Land O’ Lakes and New Port Richey.  Maribel was an active member of her community including running for state office and being Honorary Mayor of Land O’ Lakes.

Maribel had many adventures with Pete in retirement.  One of their adventures was sailing the Caribbean on “Paper Moon”, their 36’ Morgan Out Island sailboat.  Other adventures included RVing in North America and frequent visits with their children and grandchildren.  During this time, Maribel was an active member of Gulf Winds Sail Club, the Gulf Harbors community and the Sand Dollar RV Club along with other organizations.

Maribel was a fun loving, feisty, determined, strong woman who made friends easily and wasn’t afraid to fight for her beliefs. She was very proud of all her children’s accomplishments. She also found much love and joy with her grandchildren.

Maribel is survived by her husband, Pedro F. Penichet, her children and their spouses: Deborah & Donnie Delgado, Pete & Heather Penichet, Joann & Brian Swift, John Penichet and Michael Penichet. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Andrew (Lyndsee), Noah, AJ, Lourdes, Eli and David Jonner.

Maribel was preceded in death by her parents, Manolo Garcia Nava and Isabel Rasco de la Torre, and her brother, Manuel Garcia Rasco.

Maribel’s life will be celebrated with a Catholic Mass at St. Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church in Tarpon Springs on November 8, 2022 at 11:30 am.  Maribel has requested that attendees wear colors instead of black.  There will be a reception directly after mass at the Gulf Landings Clubhouse in New Port Richey.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Kidney Research, Cancer Research, or the charity of your choice. Maribel will be laid to rest in the family plot at the Memorial Plan Flagler Memorial Park in Miami later in the year.
