Marie DeSanto Cerreta, of New Port Richey, FL, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2018. She was born on September 8, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to Louise and Giovanno DeSanto. Marie was married to Kenneth Cerreta for 59 years until his death in 2011.Marie and Kenny began their married life in Brooklyn, NY before moving their expanding family to Staten Island, where they lived for several years before moving to Florida in 1982 where they both eventually retired. She was a long-time, faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in New Port Richey. Marie was a homemaker, who also found time to work at a local pharmacy both in Staten Island and New Port Richey. Her family was always her priority. She was a wonderful cook, who cherished Sunday dinners and visits from her children and grandchildren. Everyone would agree that her eggplant parmigiana and homemade manicotti were simply the best. Fondly known by her children as “Central Command”, she loved talking on the telephone, socializing, playing Bingo and all card games, especially Poker. She also loved watching award shows, going to the beach and was a faithful fan of the Tampa Bay Rays. She loved a good party, especially when the celebration was her own birthday! In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was predeceased by her son, Kenneth Cerreta, Jr., brothers Anthony, Joseph and Vincent De Santo; and sisters Millie Hughes and Jeanne Del Duca. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Giarratano (Tom); and sons Anthony (Susan), Louis (Tammy) and John Cerreta; and daughter-in-law Rosemary Cerreta. Additionally, Marie was adored and will be sorely missed by her 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Michels & Lundquist Funeral Home, 5228 Trouble Creek Road, New Port Richey, FL 34652. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 8320 Old County Road 54, New Port Richey, FL 34653. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
