Ernestine G. “Penny” Mott, age 85, was born in Sarasota, Florida on February 3, 1933 to Ernest B. and Mary Eliza Gay. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward “Curly” Mott in 2001.

Penny entered eternal rest on April 14, 2018, while in the care of HPH Hospice

She is survived by her son and daughter – R.W. “Bill” Phillips and Charkay Phillips Suiters. Also, survived by daughter-in-law Joy Phillips and grandsons Billy Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Caleb Suiters and Cameron Suiters.

In addition, Penny is survived by her brothers and sisters – Wallace Gay (Live Oak) Robert Gay (Tallahassee), Judy Burton (Palmetto) and Betty Judy (Shady Valley, TN). Preceded in death by her older brother and sister Donald Gay and Louise Green.

Penny graduated from Sarasota High School Class of 1951 and immediately went to work in the banking field, which was her career for over 37 years. She rose to the executive level during her career with First Savings and Loan of Tarpon Springs, which eventually became First Savings Bank until her retirement in 1988.

Penny and Ed were early season ticket holders for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which replaced the time they spent following Billy and Charkay around to their high school sporting events, summer league games, majorette & cheerleader competitions, local pageants, and dance recitals.

Penny was very involved in West Pasco charities and events over her lifetime – March of Dimes, American Business Woman’s Association, Ladies of the Shrine, BPOE Elks #2284, Elks Women Auxiliary, Richey Lanes Wednesday night bowling leagues.

Penny’s real passion and love was for the Order of Eastern Star and especially Chapter #117 in New Port Richey, where she served as Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls for many years. Penny held many of the key offices in the Eastern Star Order and was the Grand Treasurer for the Order of the Eastern Star for the State of Florida from 1996 until 2004.

She enjoyed traveling, social events, bingo, weekly domino group and especially the annual Thanksgiving Day family get together with her brothers, sisters, and extended family, where her laugh could be heard throughout the entire house.

Visiting hours will be held at Michels & Lundquist Funeral Home, 5228 Trouble Creek Rd, New Port Richey, Friday from 3-5pm and 6-8pm, with an Eastern Star Service at 7pm. A funeral will take place 10am Saturday at First Baptist Church of New Port Richey, 6800 Trouble Creek Rd.
