Gifts & Memorial Donations

Robert (Bob) Eugene Sommer, 75, of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023. He was born to Frederick and Frances Sommer on September 5, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan.

Bob put himself through college and graduated from the General Motors Institute with a bachelors in Engineering. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, designing repairs for airplanes. He got his masters in Engineering Management and worked in customer support management and marketing at IBM for thirty years. After leaving IBM, he opened a UPS Store.

Bob was a craftsman with a big heart and a playful smirk. He was witty and creative and caring. He built bamboo fly fishing rods for his family members and friends. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. He ran his UPS Store like a corner general store – a place for neighbors to come and chat. You knew Bob loved you if he gave you a hard time about something silly. He loved cold beer, German food, rock music, gardening, eagles, and butterflies. He was proud of his wife and kids and enjoyed spending time with them – especially when working on projects in the garage. He will live on in our jokes and our crafts.

Bob is survived by his wife, Susan, his children, Matt and Emily, and his brother, Gary. Bob is predeceased by his brother, Frederick Jr., and his parents.

Bob’s family held a private service when he was interred at the Florida National Cemetery on March 17, 2023.
