Shirley Louise Cochran
Shirley L. Cochran, 74, of Safety Harbor, FL passed away, August 13, 2022, with her family by her side.
Shirley Cochran was born on October 23, 1947, in Laurel, MS to James and Ollie Parker and raised in Philadelphia, MS. She attended East Central Community College in Decatur, MS. She was a music major and an infectious spirit who then chased her dreams of a career in travel. She started her career as a Delta flight attendant, before opening her own travel agency. Shirley loved to travel the world and moved to Safety Harbor, FL to work for AAA Luxury travel until retirement.
In addition to travel, Shirley had personal interests that ran the creative gamut. She loved music, specifically 60’s and 70’s artists. She also enjoyed a life-long passion for art, painting, and rose gardens.
Shirley was a lover of international food, “lemon zest,” laughing, her family, friends, and her faith. To know Shirley is to have laughed with or to have shared a kind word, whether with a close friend or stranger. Being humbly social was a special gift upon which Shirley was bestowed; those around her were drawn to her infectious and ebullient personality. Selflessness and generosity were two traits that highlighted her personality. Shirley touched the lives of so many people throughout her years of travel and was surrounded by family and friends. She was a joyful presence and bubbly personality. She was able to accomplish much before her untimely passing.
Her sense of humor was second to none and she was as compassionate as she was funny. Even when ill, Shirley found the silver lining to keep pushing forward in any situation. She represented the good that we all need every day in our lives. She was one of a select few who could actually rise to meet challenges with a smile. We are proud to have been able to call Shirley our mother. Her spirit is one of one.
She is survived by her children, Tiffany R. Cochran (Birmingham, AL) and Rodney L. Cochran Jr (New Port Richey, FL), and the countless friends and lives Shirley has touched throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her mother Ollie B. Parker and her father James H. Parker. Her smile and determination to see any obstacle though will be greatly missed.
“Find a way to laugh and create joy each day,”- Shirley Louise Cochran
